Why this region matters
Southeast Asia and the Pacific are among the fastest-growing tourism regions in the world. According to the UNWTO, international arrivals across ASEAN nations exceeded 45 million in 2025 — a figure projected to reach 60 million by 2028. Countries like Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines are investing heavily in tourism infrastructure, attracting a mix of leisure travelers, digital nomads, and corporate event organizers.
For travelers, these destinations have historically posed connectivity challenges. Roaming fees remain high, local SIM acquisition can be difficult at smaller airports, and coverage quality varies widely between urban and rural areas. eSIM solves these problems by letting travelers activate a local data plan before they even board their flight.
With 45 million tourists visiting Southeast Asia annually and that number climbing fast, providing reliable connectivity in this region isn't optional — it's essential for any travel business serving international customers.
What this means for WhateSIM partners
If you already distribute WhateSIM plans through your platform, there is nothing you need to do. The 12 new destinations will appear automatically in your coverage catalog starting March 2026. Your customers will be able to purchase and activate plans for these countries through the same flow they use today — no integration changes, no API updates, no additional configuration required.
For partners running MICE events, group tours, or incentive trips in the region, this expansion means you can now offer pre-provisioned connectivity for destinations like Bali, Ho Chi Minh City, and Queenstown. Distribute QR codes to attendees before departure and ensure everyone arrives with working data from the moment they land.
Coverage details and network quality
All 12 new destinations are served through partnerships with leading local network operators, delivering 4G LTE speeds in urban and major tourist areas. In countries with developing 5G infrastructure — including Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, and New Zealand — users will benefit from 5G connectivity where available.
Data plans for the new destinations follow our standard pricing tiers, with options ranging from 1 GB daily passes to 20 GB monthly plans. Regional multi-country packages covering all of Southeast Asia will also be available, making them ideal for travelers visiting multiple countries in a single trip.
Looking ahead
This expansion is part of our ongoing effort to close coverage gaps in high-demand travel regions. Over the coming months, we will continue adding destinations in Central Asia, the Caribbean, and sub-Saharan Africa. Our goal remains the same: give travel businesses the tools to offer seamless connectivity anywhere their customers go, without friction, without complexity, and without the limitations of physical SIM cards.
The new coverage goes live in March 2026. If you have questions about the expansion or want to explore partnership opportunities, reach out to our team at support@whatesim.com.
